History Makers by Nature

The decisions we take now might seem insignificant, but after a few generations, their impact may be tremendous. To live a life for the Kingdom of God means to live a life for present and future generations. Disregarding the latter renders us indifferent, selfish and short-minded. To put the foundations of a heavenly culture is a very delicate task, something only the Holy Spirit can enable us to do.
In our weak human nature, we may feel confused or insecure, but God will accomplish His will through us! We are created in and restored back to His holy and powerful image. As spiritual people, we are history makers by nature, and nothing in our weakness can stand against the mighty will of God, imprinted in us, refreshed and synced continuously in us, through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in us.
What so many generations refer back to are their founding fathers. Some do so rightfully as they continue their work and others selfishly or blindly like the Pharisees did in the times of Jesus.
"Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”" (John 8:58)
Our spiritual identity in Christ transcends all human identities. That is why the way we sow the seed of God's word and imprint this identity in present generations will affect future generations. A deviation of 1 degree might not even be noticeable on a short track but might cause such differences as there was between Jesus and the Pharisees.
"I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you [...] If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham." (John 8:37,39)
The key here is being children and not just descendants. Our identity as sons of God and what we do in our identity makes the whole difference. The danger the Gospel presents vividly is not merely a difference of opinions among God's people, but Jesus accuses them of being children of the devil.
"If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me.  Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word.  You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.  But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.  Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me?  He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.” (John 8:42-46)
The Old testament testifies to all the "deviations" from the truth the people of God undertook over the ages and how it reached a point where "He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him." (John 1:11)
Although it might seem impossible for us to end up as the Pharisees did, it is quite possible, if not for us, maybe for our descendants. How important it is to test ourselves continually against the Word of God to see if Christ is truly in us, and make this a habit and even a tradition in our homes and churches (2 Cor 13:5). How important it is to heed to the voice of the Spirit of God, who is there to help us and guide us in the truth.
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.  And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—  the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.  I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you." (John 14:15-18)
I pray for maturity and a sense of higher responsibility in the body of Christ. I pray for our eyes to be opened from the temporal to the eternal. We welcome you, Lord Jesus. Come to us through your Holy Spirit and have your way in your Church, now and forever. Amen.
