Christ in the Psalms

When writing the psalms, all the psalmists surrendered to the voice of the Holy Spirit, not only in their minds, but in their souls and spirits as well. They received musical, poetic and prophetic revelations straight from the throne of Heaven. They sang a song without understanding it all. Of course it was of some relevance to their personal or historical facts, but their revelations spoke of the Messiah with such detail and splendor, that one wonders whether they were ever aware of how "taken" they were.

Some lines portray conversations between the three persons of the Trinity. Others describe the Creation and the Crucifixion with so much detail, while in parallel expressing personal, emotional and sometimes psychological anguish, pain or joy and bliss.

The psalms are like a black hole in outer space. They suck you into a crazy and mysterious ride. We can try to analyze them, explain them, interpret them, or just enjoy them as the artistic and prophetic Word of God, and let them take us on a trip to the most intimate places of God.

Each psalm is the Gospel in all of its beauty and power. Each psalm represents Christ with such bold expressions in content and character, that no one can deny their true origin.

While one may allow himself to dissect and analyze other books in the Bible in so many ways, the psalms however, stand out as a collection of songs that break the bondage of human carnal understanding and pave the way for inspiration and encounter in the spiritual realm.

I encourage you to have a sip of the Holy Spirit, as you plunge in this "intoxicating" sea of songs of war, pain, joy and eternal bliss, and as the psalmists themselves did, surrender to the heavenly voice singing things like: "Therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy" (Ps 45:7) or "How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!"(Ps 119:103) and fly away with your own psalms perhaps, and sing to Him a new song in your own turn, if you will. God bless you!
