Prophecies and Faith

Recall the prophecies made about you so you may fight the battle well! (1 Tim 1:18)

What is it about the prophecies that make you fight so well? Is it just the fact that they foretell our victory? Or is there an element of faith involved? Paul continues and says: "holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith." (1 Tim 1:19).

There are three lessons to be drawn here:
  1. Prophecies do more than predictions. They inspire faith.
  2. Prophecies and their work in us, without us holding on to them, may cause shipwreck, meaning the ship never gets to its destination. Does this mean the prophecy was false? Not at all!
  3. Shipwreck is caused by storms, pirates or accidents. All are present in our lives today, but so is God with His Word.
We allow God's prophetic Word: Jesus, to work in us, inspire us and strengthen us. By holding on to the Word, we wage war against demonic forces, knowing full well that He who is in us is greater than He who is in the world.

Blessings!
