The Prophet and his Treasure

"For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks." (Luke 6:43-45)

The abundance of the heart of the prophet is in God's Word: Jesus. The prophet gushes forth revelation with surgical effect. His or her task is to "root out and to pull down, to destroy and to throw down, to build and to plant.” (Jeremiah 1:10)

The prophet who speaks from any other source is no prophet at all. To be a prophet one has to be God's speaker. Jesus said only God is good. The prophet speaks from a heart overflowing with God's goodness.

"My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King; My tongue is the pen of a ready writer." (Psalm 45:1)

A prophet undergoes seasons of poverty, of hunger and drought. He / she seeks the Word in so many ways until he / she finds it again. Yesterday's manna is no manna at all. God's mercies are new every morning. The prophet knows full well that real manna is supposed to shock (manna means "what!" or "what is this!"). Real manna is supposed to taste like never before. Real manna is supposed to be like new honey...

"How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!" (Psalm 119:103)

After a long and devastating search, the prophet finds hope again! The treasure within! The living Christ! The hope of glory! He blows the trumpet, gathers the masses and declares the Word of the Lord. The prophet is humble and knows full well that he/she is nothing without the Word, and depends on Him with his or her entire being. The prophet rejoices with the people, but can be subtle, can suddenly take off without proper goodbyes. He goes where his/her treasure goes. He goes with the wind, wherever it blows.

"The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:8)

Do you want to find Jesus? Look for His prophets. They are all around, they live off their treasure, they eat His flesh and drink His blood. they dream with Him and work with Him. They only go where He goes and do as He says. They are nomads living among the lost. They seem lost but they are found and well rooted in Him. They might seem weird, but that's only because they cannot conform to this world. Their kingdom is not of this world and their groom is too beautiful to miss. They are God's children, born of water and blood, full of laughter and fire. They are sold out to the Spirit. They travel through time. They wander with a purpose, to make His church shine. They are the salt of the earth with catalytic power!
