Anoint My Head with Oil

When David sings: "You anoint my head with oil" (Psalm 23:5), he is referring to the practice of shepherds anointing the head of the sheep with oil, adding a layer of oil on the eyes, ears, mouths, and noses, protecting them from illness and disease.

Our great Shepherd, Jesus, has anointed the Church with the Holy Spirit, to go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation, protected from evil spirits, snakes and deadly poison. (Mark 16:15-18)

You are protected and equipped for ministry by the anointing of the Holy Spirit and thanks to the leadership, love, care, intercession of our Great Shepherd and High Priest, the Lord Jesus, seated on the right hand of the Father in Heaven. From the head of our High Priest oil flows down to the entire body, down the beard, the garments, all the way down to the ground, blessing this fallen world with the blessings of heaven. (Psalm 133:2)
