Charismata & Redemption

  1. Speaking in tongues is for the edification of the believer and prophesying is for the edification of the church. (1 Cor 14:4)
  2. Edification is for maturity. (Eph 4:13)
  3. Maturity is for redemption. (Rom 8:15,19)

“I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy.” (1 Cor 14:5)

“I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.” (1 Cor 14:18)

“Therefore, my brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.” (1 Cor 14:39)

It truly is a remarkable thing, when we think that the entire fallen creation eagerly waits for the revelation of the [mature] sons of God (Rom 8:19). It gives a completely new perspective to the extent of our sonship and inheritance, as well as our responsibility and authority on earth.

So salvation is not a mere religious reality but a physical manifestation of a maturity that takes place from the moment we are born again until we reach perfection or until the Gospel is preached/declared throughout the entire earth and Christ returns for a bride without spot or blemish.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit, especially the gifts of speaking in unknown tongues and prophesying play a very important role when practiced regularly and in the proper manner to lead the body into maturity and love.
