The Family of God

We approach God as our own father, from whom we are born, who oversees our growth, whom we seek to please or whose joy we search out. By faith, we approach Him because He is pleased only in our faith and reliance on Him (Hebrews 11:6). So we rely on Him and seek His will always.

In everything that we do we have our eyes fixed on Him, like a servant looks at his master's hand (Psalm 123:2). Our eyes look at our father's tender and mighty hands. With His hands, He comforts us. With His hands, He reassures us. With his hands he strengthens us. He is our father and without His love, we are alienated. We are like strangers, not knowing where we belong. So we build fantasies of our belonging, like nations and cities. We seek worldly kings (1 Samuel 8:5). But those who are in Christ and are led by the Holy Spirit are sons of God the Father.

We have no other God. We have no other king, we have no other home. On this earth, we are sojourners, roaming the earth only for a short while, seeking to put on the incorruptible body on our mortal bodies (1 Corinthians 15:53), seeking to enter our eternal home and joining the great cloud of witnesses in Heaven, having our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith (Hebrews 12:1-2). We are His and He is ours. We are the people of His Seed: Jesus. We are His family.

"For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory." (Romans 8:14-17)
